0e9e67297e sensor: th02: Convert to DTS
Convert th02 sensor driver and sample app to utilize device tree.

Introduce a dts board overlay on the frdm_k64f board to ensure we at
least have a single platform in which the sample gets built.

85a0cc8f9a boards: arm: 96b_argonkey: Update dma defconfig for tests
Previous defconfig for dma is DMA_STM32F4X in this board, while the new
generic driver uses DMA_STM32 to enable DMA support, and also dma driver
of stm32 now needs HEAP_MEM_POOL_SIZE to be big enough to hold dma
stream instances.

Additional .conf files are added for also adding HEAP_MEM_POOL_SIZE
configuration to two test cases.

9346ded0af tests: pwm_api: Use smaller pwm period cycles on k64-based boards
The mcux pwm drivers use period cycles as a divisor to calculate the pwm
frequency in hertz. This operation can underflow easily with large
values of period cycles relative to the pwm clock source, causing the
driver to return an error code and the pwm_api test to fail.

Updates the test to use the smaller set of period and pulse cycles on
k64-based boards, fixing the test for frdm_k64f and hexiwear_k64 boards.

The test is not changed for i.mx rt boards because the pwm clock source
on these boards is much faster than on k64 boards, and thus the same pwm
frequency operation does not underflow.

f288d1e4a7 tests: samples: Apps shouldn't set tick rate
Tick rate is becoming a platform tunable in the tickless world. Some
apps were setting it due to requirements of drivers or subsystems (or
sometimes for reasons that don't make much sense), but the dependency
goes the other way around now: board/soc/arch level code is
responsible for setting tick rates that work with their devices.

A few tests still use hard-configured tick rates, as they have
baked-in assumptions (like e.g. "a tick will be longer than a
millisecond") that need to be addressed first.

eba81c6e54 yaml: Remove redundant document separators
YAML document separators are needed e.g. when doing

  $ cat doc1.yaml doc2.yaml | <parser>

For the bindings, we never parse concatenated documents. Assume we don't
for any other .yaml files either.

Having document separators in e.g. base.yaml makes !include a bit
confusing, since the !included files are merged and not separate
documents (the merging is done in Python code though, so it makes no
difference for behavior).

The replacement was done with

    $ git ls-files '*.yaml' | \
        xargs sed -i -e '${/\s*\.\.\.\s*/d;}' -e 's/^\s*---\s*$//'

First pattern removes ... at the end of files, second pattern clears a
line with a lone --- on it.

Some redundant blank lines at the end of files were cleared with

    $ git ls-files '*.yaml' | xargs sed -i '${/^\s*$/d}'

This is more about making sure people can understand why every part of a
binding is there than about removing some text.

d09b91f5fa tests: drivers: uart: Fix async write abort test
During the write abort test, a second write is started then quickly
aborted. This means that the number of bytes sent is relative
to that second write. So when comparing it against the number
of bytes received which is NOT reset, the first (completed)
send of five bytes has to be accounted for. The current
nrfx implementations abort quick enough that no bytes are reported
sent, so this wasn't currently being exercised (i.e. the short
circuit of zero bytes sent was taken).

Tested on nrf52840_pca10056.

7b1ee5cf13 tests: CONFIG_TEST_USERSPACE now off by default
Unlike CONFIG_HW_STACK_PROTECTION, which greatly helps
expose stack overflows in test code, activating
userspace without putting threads in user mode is of
very limited value.

Now CONFIG_TEST_USERSPACE is off by default. Any test
which puts threads in user mode will need to set
CONFIG_TEST_USERSPACE.

This should greatly increase sanitycheck build times
as there is non-trivial build time overhead to
enabling this feature. This also allows some tests
which failed the build on RAM-constrained platforms
to compile properly.

tests/drivers/build_all is a special case; it doesn't
put threads in user mode, but we want to ensure all
the syscall handlers compile properly.

0c59471436 tests/drivers/ipm: Enable on (uniprocessor) x86_64
This test was having trouble earlier (at least with some toolchains),
but whatever was causing that seems to have been fixed. The only
remaining issue is that neither the IPM console code nor the test are
SMP-safe. There's a bug (#14639) tracking the need to get these
working, but for now the straightforward workaround is just to disable
SMP.

And even long term, IPM is an oddball interprocessor communication
mechanism designed for asymmetric multiprocessing devices like Quark
SE and doesn't seem like an obvious fit for a SMP machine.

d75495709d drivers: gpio: fix mis-use of slist API in callback processing
The iterator over registered callbacks failed to account for the
possibility that the callback would remove itself from the list. If
this occurred any remaining callbacks would no longer be reachable from
the node. Switch to the slist iterator that is safe for self-removal.

Note that the slist API remains unsafe for removal of subsequent nodes.
Even with the corrected code removal of the next callback registration
(cached in tmp) will result in it being called anyway, with the
remaining unremoved registrations not being called. If the next
callback were removed and re-registered on a different device, the
callbacks would be invoked for the wrong device.

Resolve this by a documentation change describing the conditions under
which a change to callback registration from within a callback are
permitted. Add a similar note regarding the effect of adding a
callback. The current event invocation behavior for callbacks added
within an event is explicitly left unspecified, though in the current
slist implementation newly added callbacks will not be invoked until the
next event.

39b2a09f38 drivers/timer: New xtensa timer with tickless support
Rewritten Xtensa CCOUNT driver along the lines of all the other new
drivers. The new API permits much smaller code.

Notably: The Xtensa counter is a 32 bit up-counter with a comparator
register. It's in some sense the archetype of this kind of timer as
it's the simplest of the bunch (everything else has quirks: NRF is
very slow and 24 bit, HPET has a runtime frequency detection, RISC-V
is 64 bit...). I should have written this one first.

Note also that this includes a blacklist of the xtensa architecture on
the tests/driver/ipm test. I'm getting spurious failures there where
a k_sem_take() call with a non-zero timeout is being made out of the
console output code in interrupt context. This seems to have nothing
to do with the timer; I suspect it's because the old timer drivers
would (incorrectly!) call z_clock_announce() in non-interrupt context
in some contexts (e.g. "expiring really soon"). Apparently this test
(or something in the IPM or Xtensa console code) was somehow relying
on that on Xtensa. But IPM is a Quark thing and there's no particular
reason to run this test there.

20202902f2 dts_fixups: Use DT_ prefix in all defined labels not related to Kconfig
These changes were obtained by running a script created by
Ulf Magnusson <Ulf.Magnusson@nordicsemi.no> for the following
specification:

1. Read the contents of all dts_fixup.h files in Zephyr
2. Check the left-hand side of the #define macros (i.e. the X in
   #define X Y)
3. Check if that name is also the name of a Kconfig option
3.a If it is, then do nothing
3.b If it is not, then replace CONFIG_ with DT_ or add DT_ if it
has neither of these two prefixes
4. Replace the use of the changed #define in the code itself
   (.c, .h, .ld)

Additionally, some tweaks had to be added to this script to catch some
of the macros used in the code in a parameterized form, e.g.:
- CONFIG_GPIO_STM32_GPIO##__SUFFIX##_BASE_ADDRESS
- CONFIG_UART_##idx##_TX_PIN
- I2C_SBCON_##_num##_BASE_ADDR
and to prevent adding DT_ prefix to the following symbols:
- FLASH_START
- FLASH_SIZE
- SRAM_START
- SRAM_SIZE
- _ROM_ADDR
- _ROM_SIZE
- _RAM_ADDR
- _RAM_SIZE
which are surprisingly also defined in some dts_fixup.h files.

Finally, some manual corrections had to be done as well:
- name##_IRQ -> DT_##name##_IRQ in uart_stm32.c

7eabab2f5d samples, tests: Use semi-accurate project names
When using an IDE (e.g. Eclipse, Qt Creator), the project name gets
displayed. This greatly simplifies the navigation between projects when
having many of them open at the same time. Naming every project "NONE"
defeats this functionality.

This patch tries to use sensible project names while not duplicating
too much of what is already represented in the path. This is done by
using the name of the directory the relevant CMakeLists.txt file is
stored in. To ensure unique project names in the samples (and again, in
the tests folder) folder, small manual adjustments have been done.

92ef8582b9 Kconfig: Remove redundant $(ZEPHYR_BASE) from 'source's
The $srctree environment variable gives the path relative to which
'(o)source' statements work (the current directory is used if $srctree
is unset). It is set to $ZEPHYR_BASE in cmake/kconfig.cmake, so there's
no need to qualify the source of Kconfig.zephyr in sample Kconfig files
(or in external projects).

All 'source's in Zephyr assume that the Zephyr root directory is used as
the srctree as well, and would break otherwise.

Remove the $(ZEPHYR_BASE)s to make it clearer that all 'source'
statements work relative to the Zephyr root. There was some user
confusion on IRC.

Also explain how things work in the documentation.

d713033d5c Kconfig: Use new preprocessor syntax for env. variables
With the new Kconfig preprocessor (described in
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/kbuild/
kconfig-macro-language.txt), the syntax for expanding environment
variables is $(FOO) rather than $FOO.

$(FOO) is a general preprocessor variable expansion, which falls back to
environment variables if the variable isn't set (like in Make). It can
also be used in prompts, 'comment's, etc.

The old syntax will probably be supported forever in Kconfiglib for
backwards compatibility, but might as well make it consistent now that
people might start using the preprocessor more.

f1891e9473 drivers: adc: Introduce reworked API
This commit replaces the API for ADC drivers with a reworked one.
As requested in the issue #3980, the adc_enable/adc_disable functions
are removed. Additionaly, some new features are introduced, like:
- asynchronous calls
- configuration of channels
- multi-channel sampling

Common parts of code that are supposed to appear in each implementation
of the driver (like locking, synchronization, triggering of consecutive
samplings) are provided in the "adc_context.h" file to keep consistency
with the SPI driver. Syscalls are no longer present in the API because
the functions starting read requests cannot use them, since they can be
provided with a callback that is executed in the ISR context, and there
is no point in supporting syscalls only for the channels configuration.

"adc_api" test is updated and extended with additional test cases,
with intention to show how the API is supposed to be used.
"adc_simple" test is removed as it does not seem to add much value.

8cf8db3a73 Kconfig: Use a short, consistent style for prompts
Consistently use

    config FOO
            bool/int/hex/string "Prompt text"

instead of

    config FOO
            bool/int/hex/string
            prompt "Prompt text"

(...and a bunch of other variations that e.g. swapped the order of the
type and the 'prompt', or put other properties between them).

The shorthand is fully equivalent to using 'prompt'. It saves lines and
avoids tricking people into thinking there is some semantic difference.

Most of the grunt work was done by a modified version of
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/26284/
how-can-i-use-sed-to-replace-a-multi-line-string/26290#26290, but some
of the rarer variations had to be converted manually.

55ee53ce91 cmake: Prepend 'cmake_minimum_required()' into 'app' build scripts
Prepend the text 'cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 3.8.2)' into the
application and test build scripts.

Modern versions of CMake will spam users with a deprecation warning
when the toplevel CMakeLists.txt does not specify a CMake
version. This is documented in bug #8355.

To resolve this we include a cmake_minimum_required() line into the
toplevel build scripts. Additionally, cmake_minimum_required is
invoked from within boilerplate.cmake. The highest version will be
enforced.

This patch allows us to afterwards change CMake policy CMP000 from OLD
to NEW which in turn finally rids us of the verbose warning.

The extra boilerplate is considered more acceptable than the verbosity
of the CMP0000 policy.

- Remove redundant 'n' defaults. 'n' is the default value for bool

This makes the auto-generated documentation clearer as well: You get

- Shorten

* tests/drivers/ipm : won't compile due to missing

* tests/kernel/mem_protect/stackprot : will crash
"natively" when trying to corrupt the stack and therefore

12f8f76165 Introduce cmake-based rewrite of KBuild
Introducing CMake is an important step in a larger effort to make
Zephyr easy to use for application developers working on different
platforms with different development environment needs.

Simplified, this change retains Kconfig as-is, and replaces all
Makefiles with CMakeLists.txt. The DSL-like Make language that KBuild
offers is replaced by a set of CMake extentions. These extentions have
either provided simple one-to-one translations of KBuild features or
introduced new concepts that replace KBuild concepts.

This is a breaking change for existing test infrastructure and build
scripts that are maintained out-of-tree. But for FW itself, no porting
should be necessary.

For users that just want to continue their work with minimal
disruption the following should suffice:

Install CMake 3.8.2+

Port any out-of-tree Makefiles to CMake.

Learn the absolute minimum about the new command line interface:

$ cd samples/hello_world
$ mkdir build && cd build
$ cmake -DBOARD=nrf52_pca10040 ..

$ cd build
$ make

b7eaeb9f0a cleanup: Use quote include instead of system include
When the header file is located in the same directory as the source
file it is better to use a relative quote-include, e.g.

than a system include like

Avoiding the use of system includes in these cases is beneficial
because;

* The source code will be easier to build because there will be fewer
system include paths.

* It is easier for a user to determine where a quote-include header
file is located than where a system include is located.

* You are less likely to encounter aliasing issues if the list of
  system include paths is minimized.

0bfd810d13 i2c: deprecate use of union dev_config
There are several issues with the dev_config union used as a
convenience when calling the i2c_configure api. One, the union is well
name spaced protected and doesn't convey use with just i2c. Second
there are assumptions of how the bits might get packed by the union
which can't be guaranteed. Since the API takes a u32_t lets change in
tree uses to using the macros to setup a u32_t and make the union as

b4fc0738a4 tests: driver: adc: change the sampling delay
patch fix the issue of unable to read from adc by setting
appropriate sampling delay.

The sampling delay should be set to resolution of adc + 2.
In adc qmsi driver the sampling delay received form application
is subtracted from resolution of adc + 2 , if the resultant value
is less than zero then zero is set as sampling delay. So in the
adc_simple application when 12 is passed as sampling delay driver
sets it as zero. So 26 is the minimum sampling delay should be
set in application for a adc with resolution of 12. The reason
to choose 30 was to maintain same value of sampling
delay between adc_simple and adc_api application.

65a9d2a94a kernel: make K_.*_INITIALIZER private to kernel
Upcoming memory protection features will be placing some additional
constraints on kernel objects:

- They need to reside in memory owned by the kernel and not the
application
- Certain kernel object validation schemes will require some run-time
initialization of all kernel objects before they can be used.

Per Ben these initializer macros were never intended to be public. It is
not forbidden to use them, but doing so requires care: the memory being
initialized must reside in kernel space, and extra runtime
initialization steps may need to be peformed before they are fully
usable as kernel objects. In particular, kernel subsystems or drivers
whose objects are already in kernel memory may still need to use these
macros if they define kernel objects as members of a larger data
structure.

It is intended that application developers instead use the
K_<object>_DEFINE macros, which will automatically put the object in the
right memory and add them to a section which can be iterated over at
boot to complete initiailization.

There was no K_WORK_DEFINE() macro for creating struct k_work objects,
this is now added.

k_poll_event and k_poll_signal are intended to be instatiated from
application memory and have not been changed.

b7f6aaaa72 tests: uart_basic_api: Don't assume we can drink from IRQ firehose.
There're (at least) 2 UART TX interrupt causes: "tx fifo has more
room" and "transmission of tx fifo complete". Zephyr API has only
one function to enable TX interrupts, uart_irq_tx_enable(), so it's
fair to assume it enables interrupt for both conditions. But then
immediately after enabling TX IRQ, it will be fired with "tx fifo
has more room" cause. If ISR doesn't do anything to fill FIFO, on
some architectures, immediately after return from ISR, it will be
fired again (with no instruction progress in the main application
thread). That's exactly the situation with this test, and on ARM,
it leads to inifnite IRQ loop.

So, instead move call to uart_fifo_fill() inside ISR, and be sure
to disable TX IRQ after we transmitted enough characters.

According to ZEP-1717, removing the callback from

You also need to call gpio_pin_configure() on

disable the interrupt for the pin.

This commit will stop level interrupt from being

0c87784c84 tests/gpio: fix test GPIO_INT_EDGE bug
When test GPIO_INT_EDGE, there is no code to skip GPIO_INT_LEVEL

Initially we introduce a new config overlay that is used for all tests, in

current version and the date, useful when reporting bugs and also an
indicator that the system has booted before the test has started.

954baea90b random: Restructure RANDOM Kconfig
Restructure the RANDOM Kconfig to match the structure used in other
drivers with a single top level menu. Move the true random number
generators to appear first in the menu, with pseudo generators at the
bottom. Do not present pseudo generators if a true random generator
is presented.

This change implies that tests, samples and applications that require
the random driver interface must now select CONFIG_RANDOM_GENERATOR.

In order for tests and samples to build (and run) on platforms that
have no random driver it remains necessary to select
the CONFIG_TEST_RANDOM_GENERATOR.

Note that CONFIG_TEST_RANDOM_GENERATOR retains its original purpose of
enabling a random driver that delivers non random numbers for the
purpose of testing only.

9e1df6f21f tests/drivers/adc: move to ztest to actually test
This TC is only exercising the API, as we don't have a feedback loop
mechanism to verify whichever values are fed to the ADC.

Fixed the loop to complete after 10 runs; on each run, print the
values and actually report the difference between them. With no inputs
connected (aka: floating), they should be reporting noise relatively
close to the previous reading, so we might want to use this delta as a
testing pattern (assert if the delta is higher than some value, but
I've seen variations as high as 40M units). For now, the test is just
happy with being able to read them.

The buffer has been re-typed to uint32_t so we can iterate over it
without casting tricks -- it requires then only a single cast when
initializing sample.buffer (which shall be a void* anyway).

Duplicated the buffer, so we can flip/flop between two buffers to
compare against the entries read in the previous run.

v4: fixed missed warnings

bcb6ed95e7 tests/drivers/pci_enum: move to ztest and run in HW when possible
This test case just exercises the PCI enumeration and there is no real
way to test success/failure other than running it and the kernel not
crashing.

Moved to ztest.

Retag so it is actually ran on QEMU/x86 and galileo once we deploy in
the HW pool. Note this means that we need to force CONFIG_PCI on
Qemu/x86, which can run this testcase.
