a202341958 devices: constify device pointers initialized at compile time
Many device pointers are initialized at compile and never changed. This
means that the device pointer can be constified (immutable).

Automated using:

```
device *const $1= DEVICE/g' **/*.c
e0125d04af devices: constify statically initialized device pointers
It is frequent to find variable definitions like this:
```c
static const struct device *dev = DEVICE_DT_GET(...)
```
That is, module level variables that are statically initialized with a
device reference. Such value is, in most cases, never changed meaning
the variable can also be declared as const (immutable). This patch
constifies all such cases.
fc9f59ce0f shell: fix synchronization in log immediate mode
When LOG_MODE_IMMEDIATE is used, logs processed by the shell
log backend may be intertwined with messages printed by
shell commands running on the shell thread.
It is because the shell uses a mutex while the shell log
backend uses the IRQ lock for synchronization. Switch the
latter to use the mutex as well whenever it's possible.
f7c4fe6778 shell: optimize history storage a bit
When padding is added to "fill" the gap in order to wrap to the
beginning of the ring buffer, such padding is attributed to the
current item being added. Let's attribute it to the previous entry
instead so it'll be freed along with that entry and make the space
available one entry sooner, increasing the chances for keeping the
current entry around longer.
If ring buffer is empty then always reset it up front to get best
alignment right away i.e. beginning of buffer.
eee5b8e563 ring_buffer: make finish methods final
Make it possible to "finish" with fewer bytes than what was "claimed".
This was possible before on the get side, but the put side was
cummulative wrt finish. The revamp made it cummulative on both sides.
more logical and useful. So make both sides that way.
d4559f53fa lib: getopt: rework and extend getopt library
Getopt has been rework in this way that calling it does not require
extra state parameter and its execution is thread safe.
Global parameters describing the state of the getopt function have been
made available to ensure full API compatibility in using this library.
However, referencing these global variables directly is not thread
safe. In order to get the state of the getopt function for the thread
that is currently using it, call: getopt_state_get();
Extended the library with getopt_long and getopt_long_only functions.
Moved getopt libary from utils to posix.
4100c57faa shell: Fix immediate logging case
When logging is using immediate mode then logging messages
can be processed from any context, including interrupt context.
z_shell_fprintf was asserting in that case since it allowed to
be called from interrupt context only when logging was in panic
mode. However, shell works in the same way when logging is in
immediate mode as in panic mode.
Renamed internal shell flag from panic_mode to sync_mode. Flag
is also set when shell log backend is started in synchronous
mode (immediate logging) which prevents assertion.
01a01de594 shell: fix polling TXDONE signal by multiple threads
This patch fixes the issue that can cause a deadlock in shell.
When two threads simultaneously poll the TXDONE signal, only one
of them will receive it, leaving second one stalled.
The problem was that shell's context contains k_poll_event objects that
were polled by multiple threads. Polling it overwrites the poller field
that was set by previous thread.
Instead, the k_poll_event object must be created on the stack by every
thread that wants to poll the TXDONE signal.
This makes sure that no thread will be left waiting for this signal
forever.
17d2e9d084 shell: optionally configure priority of the shell thread
Currently, in Zephyr the shell thread is the lowest priority i.e.
K_LOWEST_APPLICATION_THREAD_PRIO. Due to this all the other threads can
preempt the shell thread. Proposed solution is to add Kconfig which
gives the flexibility to change the priority of the shell thread.
This is now implemented using a new Kconfig variable
SHELL_THREAD_PRIORITY_OVERRIDE. By setting this option
SHELL_THREAD_PRIORITY can be set.
fb73ac392c lib/os/cbprintf_nano.c: several improvements
This makes cbprintf_nano.c much closer to the standard printf and
therefore more useful. The following are now implemented:
- right justification for everything (only for numbers previously)
- precision value for numbers, chars and strings
- width/precision passed as arguments with *
- "unlimited" padding length
- lower/uppercase hex output
- the #, + and ' ' flags are supported
And the code was heavily reworked to reduce its size as much as
possible to mitigate the size growth. Still, the binary resulting
from cbprintf_nano.c is now between 10% and 20% bigger depending on
the architecture. This is still far smaller than cbprintf_complete.c
which remains about twice as big on average even without FP support.
Many unit tests that were skipped with CONFIG_CBPRINTF_NANO are now
enabled, and a few more were added for good measure.
7451a32e98 mgmt: smp: shell: allow to configure multiple RX buffers via Kconfig
With only single RX buffer there is a high chance that such buffer will
not be processed before new bytes come in over UART. This is why it is
good to have at least two buffers, one which can be processed by SMP
layer, while another is being filled with new incoming bytes.
Add Kconfig option which allows to configure multiple buffers filled
with received UART SMP fragments. Use default value of 2, so we can
safely process already received frame in thread, while new fragment
comes in concurrently.
79fa92229a mgmt: smp: shell: use net_buf API for storing UART SMP fragments
So far there was a simple char array used as buffer, with additional
variable representing number of bytes already written into it. After
full frame was written, a boolean flag was simply set to notify thread
about being ready to be processed. There was however no mechanism
implemented to prevent new incoming bytes from overwriting such buffer
before (or during) being processed.
Use net_buf to store temporary frame. Define dedicated net_buf_pool,
from which such buffer will be allocated and freed after being
processed. This will prevent from reusing the same buffer before having
it fully processed (and returning once again to available buffer pool)
in shell thread.
Define also fifo that will store buffers that are ready to be
processed. This will be the mechanism for notifying thread about new
UART SMP fragments.
net_buf pool and k_fifo are used on purpose, keeping in mind their
additional overhead (mostly in RAM/ROM usage). This makes the code ready
for increasing number of buffers if needed. In this commit however we
stick with only 1 buffer, to keep minimal changes in processing flow.
e812ee6c21 shell: support floating point output with newlib
shell_fprintf requires that formatted output be emitted with a
putchar()-like output function.  Newlib does not provide such a
capability.  Zephyr provides two solutions: z_prf() which is part of
which is core and does not support floating point.
Move z_prf() out of minimal libc into the core lib area, and use it
unconditionally in the shell.
The smp_shell_rx_byte has been renamed to smp_shell_rx_bytes and now
The change has been done to more efficiently serve most common scenario
when the function is called in loop to process buffer, byte by byte.
with the change the function will work directly on source buffer
d8c7fc8be6 shell: Fix uart_rx_handle byte processing when ring buffer full
In case when shell ring buffer gets full the data may still be taken
from the UART fifo, byte by byte, and accepted by the SMP back-end,
if the back-end has been enabled.
Unfortunately the uart_rx_handle failed to check if it has been
successfull in reading a byte from the fifo, before passing it to
the SMP for processing, which could lead to processing random stack data
as a part of an SMP frame.
Additinally, when the SMP would have accepted the byte,
the uart_rx_handle would fail to signal shell_thread, that the SMP has
internally buffered data that could be processed.
8d7bb8ffd8 device: Refactor device structures
When the device driver model got introduced, there were no concept of
SYS_INIT() which can be seen as software service. These were introduced
afterwards and reusing the device infrastructure for simplicity.
However, it meant to allocate a bit too much for something that only
required an initialization function to be called at right time.
Thus refactoring the devices structures relevantly:
- introducing struct init_entry which is a generic init end-point
- struct deviceconfig is removed and struct device owns everything now.
- SYS_INIT() generates only a struct init_entry via calling
  INIT_ENTRY_DEFINE()
- DEVICE_AND_API_INIT() generates a struct device and calls
  INIT_ENTRY_DEFINE()
- init objects sections are in ROM
- device objects sections are in RAM (but will end up in ROM once they
  will be 'constified')
It also generate a tiny memory gain on both ROM and RAM, which is nice.
Perhaps kernel/device.c could be renamed to something more relevant.
6fdb9e6ded shell: dump characters in shell_hexdump
Improve hexdump output of shell_hexdump() to match what is currently
printed by LOG_HEXDUMP*() family of functions. That way string buffers
that are sent/received using shell commands can be easily presented
using shell_hexdump() without loosing user experience (with previous
shell_hexdump() that printed only hex bytes) and code validity (printed
buffers are not always NULL terminated with only printable characters).
32bb2395c2 timeout: Fix up API usage
Kernel timeouts have always been a 32 bit integer despite the
existence of generation macros, and existing code has been
inconsistent about using them.  Upcoming commits are going to make the
timeout arguments opaque, so fix things up to be rigorously correct.
Changes include:
+ Adding a K_TIMEOUT_EQ() macro for code that needs to compare timeout
  values for equality (e.g. with K_FOREVER or K_NO_WAIT).
+ Adding a k_msleep() synonym for k_sleep() which can continue to take
  integral arguments as k_sleep() moves away to timeout arguments.
+ Pervasively using the K_MSEC(), K_SECONDS(), et. al. macros to
  generate timeout arguments.
+ Removing the usage of K_NO_WAIT as the final argument to
  K_THREAD_DEFINE().  This is just a count of milliseconds and we need
  to use a zero.
This patch include no logic changes and should not affect generated
code at all.
80a0d9d16b kernel: interrupt/idle stacks/threads as array
The set of interrupt stacks is now expressed as an array. We
also define the idle threads and their associated stacks this
way. This allows for iteration in cases where we have multiple
CPUs.
There is now a centralized declaration in kernel_internal.h.
On uniprocessor systems, z_interrupt_stacks has one element
and can be used in the same way as _interrupt_stack.
The IRQ stack for CPU 0 is now set in init.c instead of in
arch code.
The extern definition of the main thread stack is now removed,
this doesn't need to be in a header.
c411ed9322 shell: modules: Add date commands to display or set date
Currently only supports Unix time.
‘get’ subcommand returns date in format “Y-m-d H:M:S”
‘set’ subcommand format is ‘[Y-m-d] <H:M:S>’
The ‘set’ subcommand is implemented with basic date validation.
For user convenience of small adjustments to time the time argument
will accept H:M:S, :M:S or ::S where the missing field(s) will be
filled in by the previous time state.
